MAGNA, Utah – Michael Dean Kyker “Mike” died Wednesday, March 21, 2018, in Magna, Utah, surrounded by family.

Uncle Mike wanted the following things to be highlighted in his life: Mike was born Sept. 25, 1948, in Dixon, to Winford Harold and Regina Jane (Haney) Kyker. He graduated in 1967 from Dixon High School.

Mike served in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971. Awards received during his service in the Marine Corps: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, RVN Cross of Gallantry, Good Conduct Medal, and Rifle Expert. He was honorably released in 1973.

Mike and his sweet wife, Julia Billeb, the daughter of Kenneth and Ina (Lindsey) Billeb, made a home in Des Moines, Iowa. Mike loved gunsmithing, fishing, and traveling with Julia. Mike earned his diplomas in welding, tool and die, and operating engineer, all from Des Moines Community College. Some of Mike’s fun phrases were: “Well, I’m not trying to be funny,” and “Wrong attitude huh.” Mike was a member of AARP and Baldwin Patterson Post 274. He was a lifetime member of NRA and American Legion.

Survivors include his nephews’ family that he has been living with, Brian Elvis (Angela) Hulleberg Sr. and family, Brian Benjamin J. Hulleberg Jr., Kyker Elvis Hulleberg, Sara Ann Hulleberg, of Magna, Utah; brothers, Patrick H. (Barb) Kyker of Centralia, and Timothy P. Kyker of Pine Creek Township; nephews, Bjorn (Kathy) Hulleberg Jr., Patrick W. Kyker, Jeffrey A. (Lori) Kyker, Matthew Kyker, and Levi (Deb) Kyker; niece, Regina T. Burck; aunts, Delores (Bob) Massey, Eleanor Kyker, and Sharon Kyker; cousins, Roberta L. Kyker, Nell (Brad) Eakle, Susan (Todd) Ogan, Kendall Kyker, and John Kyker; friends, Rocky (Vicki) Vitiritto and family, Jim “Alphabet” Salkiewicz, and Tom Rhodes. He also is survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents in 1998 and 1994; the love of his life, his wife, Julia Billeb in 2008; and sister, Regina Marie Hulleberg in 1988. Mike admired his grandmother, Lillie Reba (Myers) Kyker who died in 1981. Mike had many stories of his uncles and their crazy adventures: Robert Levi Kyker died in 1974; Daniel Ward Kyker died in 1944; Gene Henry Kyker died in 2015; and Harry Andrew Kyker died in 1961.

Funeral arrangements by Larkin Funeral Home. Per Mike’s request there will not be a funeral service. A graveside service will be at noon Friday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon. Military honors will be provided. The family would like to thank Caregiver Support Network Home Health & Hospice for their tender care for Mike. Condolences may be sent to the family.

I remember Mike very well as he and I were competing wrestlers for the heavyweight position. Mike was a very worthy opponent and would have been a strong competitor our senior year had I not fractured his ankle in practice.

DHS Class of 1967 had some incredible people and Mike was one of those who did the hard things and made them look easy.  Condolences to all of his family and friends.  He will be missed.

Mike and I both went to St Mary's and DHS. He could be one of those rough around the edges kind of guy. The last time I saw him was went I got back from Vietnam and we traded stories of his and my tour. Rest in peace Devil Dog. Semper Fi!

Mike was a nice guy, with the  most brilliant blue eyes. He loved to joke around and always had a good come back. His family was blessed to have him in their lives, as all who knew him.
