Stanley "Stan" Wayne Lewis
Born: January 7, 1949 in Amboy, IL
Died: July 1, 2023 in Franklin Grove, IL
Sadly, on July 1, 2023; husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend to so many people, died. Enduring many physical injuries and surgical health issues throughout his life, he succumbed to the ravages of long-haul Covid and dementia.
Stan was born in Amboy, IL on January 7, 1949, to Arthur and Theresa (Girton) Lewis, both preceded him in death.
"Stan the Man" graduated from Dixon High School, excelling in sports; especially football, and wrestling... (didn't excel in academics, as it wasn't his prime interest)! He continued his education, earning an Associate's degree in Building Construction Technology at Sauk Valley College. He then attended Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local #25 to receive licensure. He followed with several continuing education classes at NIU, Milwaukee, WI, and several other locations.
Employed by the state of Illinois, he then joined the city of DeKalb as the Plumbing and Building Inspector, retiring from that position.
Stan worked hard and played hard; enjoying fishing, hunting, boating, and mini vacations. He was known as "The Grill-Master," cooking for family and friends. After retirement, Stan truly enjoyed working on his 10 acres and sitting on the ranger watching for bison over the fence. He could often be found with a chainsaw, cutting and splitting his wood for the wood burner he kept burning every winter while watching out the window for all the deer, turkeys, foxes, coyotes, and birds; doing all of this with his faithful companion, Lucy the lab.
Sandra (Butler) and Stan were married on September 7, 1968. Having a family of four children; they are Whitney (Rocky Stone) Lewis, of Grand Detour, Jeff (Brandie) Lewis, of Dixon, Megen Lewis (deceased), and Josh (Darcey) Lewis, of Dixon.
These children gifted Stan and Sandy with ten beautiful grandchildren; Michela (Tony) Latimer, of Dixon, Brandan (Gabriella) Gartman, of Phoenix, AZ, Ciera (Brennan) Shippert, of Polo, Samantha (Joe) Dailey, of Dixon, Dakota Lewis, of Boulder, CO, and Carmen, Alexander, Levi, and Micah "Bear" Lewis, all of Dixon; seven great-grandchildren, Jayden, Jakobi and Jemma Latimer, Emmitt Gartman and Kennedi, Hadleigh "Peanut", and Madden Shippert.
Stan is survived by his wife Sandy, and his sister Sharon Smith, of Franklin Grove.
Stan belonged to the Dixon Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for 50 years, actively serving as both an elder and ministerial servant. Many happy days he spent with friends as a volunteer minister for his faith. One of his favorite scriptures was Revelation 21: 3-4......"the tent of God is with mankind and God himself will be with them....he will wipe out every tear...death will be no more neither will mourning nor outcry nor...pain...the former have passed away"
A memorial service will be held on July 22, 2023, at 1:00 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 634 Countryside Lane Dixon IL.
ZOOM will also be accessible at Meeting ID: 868 2315 1475 and Passcode: 752549. Luncheon will also follow at Elks Lodge 1279 Franklin Grove Rd Dixon IL.
Arrangements were completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.
