Helen Louise Winters, 63, of Dixon, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at Dixon Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She worked at BorgWarner for 25 years before retiring.Helen was born July 5, 1949, in Dixon, the daughter of Oliver and Gertrude (Mossholder) Mumford. Our families lived in the same apartment building when Helen and I were one year old. We went to Lincoln School together from the 5th grade on. We were friends through out high school. I left Dixon in 1972 but we would always spend time together when I would come home to visit. Although years would pass before we would see one another, we remained friends.
Helen was so much fun to be friends with. Most people knew that about her. But Helen was also a deeply kind and empathetic woman. I keep in mind the great times we had, though I still wish I could call her.
